Candidiasis
Candidiasis is an infection caused by the yeast Candida, which is a normal part of the human microbiome. However, when Candida overgrowth occurs, it can cause infections in various parts of the body, including the mouth, throat, genitals, and skin.
Symptoms of candidiasis vary depending on the type and location of the infection. Oral candidiasis (thrush) can cause white patches on the tongue, inner cheeks, and roof of the mouth, as well as soreness and difficulty swallowing. Genital candidiasis (yeast infection) can cause itching, burning, and discharge in the vagina or penis. Skin candidiasis can cause a red, itchy rash with white scales or patches.
Treatment for candidiasis usually involves antifungal medications, which may be topical or oral, depending on the severity of the infection. In addition to medication, there are several steps you can take to help prevent candidiasis, including maintaining good hygiene, avoiding tight-fitting clothing, and avoiding the use of antibiotics and other medications that can disrupt the balance of bacteria and fungi in the body.
If you suspect you may have candidiasis, it is important to seek medical attention to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. Left untreated, candidiasis can lead to complications and may increase the risk of developing other infections.
