Arthritis
Arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation in one or more joints, resulting in pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion. There are many types of arthritis, but the most common are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Here are some ways to manage arthritis:
- Medications: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or naproxen, can help relieve pain and reduce inflammation. For more severe pain or inflammation, prescription medication may be necessary.
- Exercise: Regular exercise can help reduce pain and stiffness, improve joint mobility, and strengthen the muscles around the affected joint. Low-impact exercises such as walking, swimming, or cycling are often recommended.
- Weight management: Excess weight can put additional stress on the joints, so maintaining a healthy weight can help reduce pain and slow the progression of arthritis.
- Physical therapy: Physical therapy can help improve joint function, reduce pain, and strengthen the muscles around the affected joint.
- Assistive devices: Devices such as braces, splints, or canes can help support the affected joint and improve mobility.
- Surgery: In some cases, joint replacement surgery may be necessary to relieve severe pain and improve joint function.
